Last one!

I thought I’d close out the month with a colorful look. It’s been quite a month! Thanks so much for coming along with me on this ridiculous quest of mine. Thank you for all your comments, whether you posted on the site or told me in person or through some other social media. I appreciate each and every one of them and of you!

Apparently there are enough hours in the day to write a new post (almost) everyday for a month. Who would have known? I think back on all those times I thought to myself, “I sure would like to do some crazy makeup, just because! But seriously, who has time for that? I have a job… and a house… and a dog… and… things. I don’t have time for crazy makeup. But it sure would be nice to have time.” I’m such an IDIOT! I sure showed me!

28 different looks and WAY too many photos later, I’ve discovered that I really DO love cosmetics and it’s not just some weird abstract idea in my mind. There were definitely a couple of days that blogging was the last thing on my mind, but I did it anyways. And it was so much fun!

Thanks again everyone for humoring me and helping me out. Give me suggestions for looks I should post in the future! Because there is no way I’m going to stop doing this. But not tomorrow. I will admit I’m going to enjoy being lazy after work tomorrow.

No Memoirs Please

That movie was pretty and all, but the plot did nothing for me. Also the three main geisha were played by Chinese actors. I understand that they were cast because of their star power and acting ability, but gosh… They couldn’t have cast some up and coming Japanese actors?

Chinese, Japanese, close enough right? Their English-with-Japanese-accents were passable enough though. I commend them for that.

I have Japanese heritage from my Dad’s side. My pretty grandma was half Japanese. I don’t think I got any of the features though. Maybe my (relatively) pale skin and super black hair.

I tried to keep the makeup more on the traditional side. There’s lots of stylized geisha makeup looks out there already. Blending out the foundation and making it as white and even as possible took me so long, around 45 minutes. Also, the white usually goes all down the neck and chest, and the nape of the neck is painted with a very pretty “W” or “V” shape. I’m glad I didn’t try to do that, this is going to be crazy enough to wash off already!

Maiko traditionally don’t fill in their upper lip with color, but I didn’t like it very much. So I’m pretending I’m a fully trained geisha.

Sorry I missed yesterday! I ended up having to go into the office in the afternoon to check on two servers that went offline for seemingly no reason. Then I hung out with an old girl friend and we got caught up in a serious case of revertigo. I didn’t get home until quite late in the evening. It’s a shame too, because before I went into the office I managed to apply two different colors of eye shadow on either eye without noticing for a little bit. Then I spent about 20 minutes trying to mix the two colors together to make the same shade on each eye. Chris tried to explain to me that I wouldn’t be seeing anyone in the office and that my friend probably wouldn’t care, but I wasn’t having any of it. Oh well.

No Baby Seals Allowed

In the club. Get it? I hope not.

Before I started taking pictures I had just filled in my brows with Urban Decay’s Buck shadow like I do everyday for work. It looked okay in the mirror, Chris said I looked nice, and then I thought “Yay! Myspace photoshoot time! I look purty!”

Looks okay right? But me being the fussy perfectionist I am, I just had to mess with things.

Like my hair. And the way I tied my IrisImpressions dress. And my eyebrows.

Flash photography takes away so much color, especially when you’re using a little point-n-shoot digicam. You might think you look okay, and you probably do!

However, if you’re going out to a club or party and plan on taking OMG-TOTALLY-GOING-ON-FACEBOOK pictures, I would recommend taking a few test pictures before you leave. Just in case your eyebrows pull a David Copperfield under the flash. Or you have too much powder on your nose. Or your eyeliner is lopsided.

I got the earrings at Hot Topic a long time ago. I’ve never worn them out because they’re so long! If i wear my hair down, they get all tangled up in it, and if I wear my hair up they’re kind of annoying.

Thank goodness this week is over. I felt like the weekend would never get here!

Ready For Abduction

E.T. by Katy Perry played on my Pandora station yesterday, and I had totally forgotten how much I loved her makeup in the music video.

I said “Someday I’ll do that. Yup. Someday.”

Hello Someday. It’s nice to meet you. *nervous laugh* Nooo, I haven’t been avoiding you, what makes you think that?

Maybe this weekend I’ll try the other look she had in the video… my white foundation is getting a workout this month.

It’s getting to the end of the month. I have to say, this wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I’ll definitely keep posting makeup looks for you after April 30th. Maybe not daily though; my poor Clarisonic brush has seen things no facial scrub brush should. It’s still a little pink from Tuesday.

Ariel’s Bad Influence Friend

Everyone has or had a bad influence friend.

You know, the one that tells you to blow off your recital to spy on humans?

I can’t wait for summer. Is it summer yet? My sarongs are tired of being worn around the house.

The flash turned all the colors blue, but I swear I picked all blue-green colors.

It’s okay, I kinda like it. Except maybe the lips. I wish those were more green than blue.

I was going to try and do something that didn’t involve putting so much product on my face. Apparently I don’t know when to stop!
